Before I drink a bad coffee, I’d rather not drink any at all. That’s why I’m very picky about my daily dose of caffeine. Luckily Palma’s coffee culture is booming and there are several roasters selling specialty coffee roasted on the island. In this blog article I’ll tell you more about my favourite coffee roasters in Palma.
1. Mistral Coffee – Mallorca’s first speciality coffee roaster
Mistral Coffee is the first specialty coffee roaster in Mallorca. With special attention to detail they have been roasting own coffee on the island since 2017. Their ethically sourced and seasonally produced Arabica coffee is one-hundred percent traceable. It is roasted on a 12 Kilo Probatone from Probat, enhancing all subtle nuances of each coffee.
The offer of Mistral Coffee contains a selected combination of origins. I particularly like Fazenda Bom Jesus from Brazil. You can buy their coffee in the Mistral Coffee Roasters shop, the new Mistral Coffee House and online. I usually go to the Coffee House for having a snack together with a coffee.
2. My favourite coffee roaster in Palma: La Molienda
As the first specialty coffee shop in Palma, La Molienda started in 2013 selling coffee to go. Since 2020 they roast their own coffee on the island and sell it in their three cafes in Palma and online. La Molienda coffee is roasted in a Giesen roastery, fairly traded, rich in taste and simply delicious. I can recommend El Boqueron from Guatemala. Read more about La Molienda in my blog article “La Molienda, my favourite coffee roaster in Palma“.
3. Arabay Coffee, tradition since 1952
The last of the TOP 3 coffee roasters in Palma: Arabay Coffee. With Cafés Bay and Cafés Albertí the brand is part of the Bay Coffee Roasters which together are the national leaders in specialty coffee sales.
The Arabay brand itself sells coffee since 2016 and has shops in Palma, Ibiza and Madrid, starting to expand worldwide. It comes from countries such as Kenya, Tanzania and Colombia and is roasted in Lloret de Vistalegre in the centre of the island, in the roastery of Cafés Bay, in operation since 1952. In the Arabay flagship store in Palma you can buy portafilter machines, coffee accessories of all kinds and attend barista courses. During my pregnancies I used to drink Arabay Honduras descafeinado “SwissWater process”.
